Jacob Jardel (he/him)
Guåhan-born CHamoru writer, educator, and student based in Kansas City
Håfa Adai, I’m Jacob J.

I come from a family of educators. My mother still works in K-12 education. My grandmother established the deaf education program on our native Guåhan (Guam). Now, I continue the family tradition as a former teaching assistant and prospective professor. I graduated from Cameron University with a B.S. in Psychology (2013) and then an M.S. in Behavioral Sciences (General Psychology, 2017) before obtaining my MA in English (Composition & Rhetoric, 2020). I’m currently a Ph.D. student in Humanities with a specialization in English at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where I am also working on a Graduate Certificate in College Teaching and Career Preparation as part of the Preparing Future Faculty Program. Since finishing my assistantship, I have been working as a Graduate Assistant for the UMKC Writing Studio. On top of all of that, I’m also a former student journalist for the Cameron Collegian, former Editor-in-Chief for The Central Dissent, former Editor for The Sosland Journal, and occasional creative writer as part of the Garden Party Collective.
